During a trip to visit her younger sister, Cathy, in New Zealand in October 2019, Alice Kilroy was diagnosed with stage four cancer. She decided to complete her trip, and was joined by both her daughter, Stephanie, and her brother, Martin and sister in law, Judith.

After living with cancer for a few short months, Alice passed away peacefully at Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead on 17th February 2020.

Her work will be deeply missed, both as a banner maker, and as a bookkeeper for various organisations. However, it is Alice herself who we miss the most. Nothing seems quite the same without her inimitable personality, and strong opinions.

We will be keeping this website open as a memorial for Alice’s banners, which she was so incredibly proud of. If you have any questions, or just want to share memories of Alice, please feel free to get in touch with her daughter, Stephanie, here.

About

About

As well as being a Banner Maker I am a Bookkeeper and a retired Schoolteacher.

I made my first Banner in October 2001 and it simply said “ISLINGTON AGAINST THE WAR”.

I was involved in Notting Hill Carnival for years and eventually made Banners for “South Connections,” a costume Band. This was the point at which I started using netting rather than material as the backing for the banners I made. They are light and easy to carry. Because of the material I use they are mostly 2m by 1.5m.

I also make table cloths and material banners which are hand-held.
